Security for Critical Energy Infrastructure 2008
Protect your assets, infrastructure and personnel through enhanced prediction, effective prevention and efficient response strategies
Track24 was a proud sponsor of the 3rd Global Summit on Security for Critical Energy Infrastructure on 31st January and 1st February 2008. The two-day event, which took place at The Café Royal in London, was designed to:- Assess the diverse threats in high risk areas with the latest case studies from Yemen, Nigeria, Russia and Trinidad & Tobago and determine ways of mitigating these
- Understand international policy for the protection of critical energy infrastructure and debate ways forward for international cooperation on security
- Evaluate best practice for preventing security interruptions by contrasting soft vs hard security
- Examine effective prevention and risk control strategies by evaluating the design, implementation and sustainability of security systems in high risk areas
For high value energy infrastructure such as refineries and pipelines, a multi-layered approach to security is required. Command, control and crisis management technologies can be used to overcome the vulnerabilities that may render conventional physical security alone ineffective, namely the remote locations and massive scale of such infrastructure.
Technological solutions for co-ordinating security teams, pinpointing incidents and escalating response mechanisms were outlined in a presentation at the Summit by Track24 – How Technology Can Improve Crisis Management In The Energy Sector – which covered:
- How technology is changing the way risks are managed in volatile places
- Case Study: Algeria – a model for co-operative risk management
- The future implications and business benefits of these technologies and concepts
