Freelander 2 Trials: Land Rover are on track and in control in Iceland

Iceland, with some of the harshest terrain on earth, was the ideal venue to test the capabilities of the new Freelander 2 Diesel Automatic. In a constantly challenging and changing environment 20 vehicles covered an average of 800 miles each day. Track24 was on hand throughout to help ensure that the event was as safe and well co-ordinated as possible.

Participants had the freedom to explore both the all-terrain vehicle and the landscape and with Track24’s help the Land Rover Experience Team could ensure they were properly monitored but not restricted to preset routes. Vehicles could be pushed to their limits as they crossed the unforgiving Icelandic wilderness, negotiating glaciers, flooded plains and ice-clad rock.

At all times the support team knew that, through Track24, response times would be significantly reduced in the event of an incident. The Armadillo solution provided the safety net to ensure that the experience could be enjoyed by all and that the support team were not unduly burdened.

While the vehicles were continually altering routes a secure on-line crisis management platform allowed the support team to pin-point the location of multiple vehicles to within a few metres on detailed mapping of Iceland. With little fear of being lost, participants could focus on putting the new Freelander through its paces.
