Land Rover use Track24 for 17,000 mile Go60 expedition

As part of their 60th anniversary celebrations, Land Rover recreated their extraordinary 1956 overland expedition from Solihull to Singapore. Every stage of the 17,183 mile journey was tracked and monitored using Track24 technology.

Running between May and July 2008, the journey comprised four continuous legs through Europe, Russia, the Himalayas and Asia. As the expedition group crossed remote territories in Eastern Europe and Asia, the tracking and crisis management capabilities provided by the satellite-based Armadillo tracking devices remained operational, irrespective of the availability of conventional means of communication such as mobile phone networks.

Each vehicle - two Land Rover Defenders and three Land Rover Discoveries - was fitted with an Armadillo tracker and integral panic alarm. In the event of an incident, the vehicle crews knew that by pushing the panic button they had the ability to notify the event operations centre in a matter of minutes.

The event aimed to raise publicity and funds to educate and improve the lives of some of the most deprived children in the world. Go60 and its sponsors, of which Track24 was official sponsor for vehicle tracking, will be donating the proceeds of the project to the British Red Cross.
